At this point in the novel (through chapter 20), several issues and themes on life have been portrayed and explored. Of the following, which theme (themes) would you consider to be most important/most explored? Explain why, citing evidence from the text itself. 1. Role of books, literacy 2. Friendship, guilt, & redemption 3. Relationship between Fathers & Sons 4. Coming of Age (becoming an adult/"man") 5. Resiliency of the human spirit 6. Man's inhumanity towards man 7. Discrimination, prejudice, bigotry, class structure
The biggest challenge my generation faces is the economy steadily getting worse by the day. This is a wide-ranging challenge because it affects everybody, everywhere, regardless of age. It could possibly be addressed by taking a look at how income and other forms of taxes work, as well as the rate of inflation and how that may be taken care of as well.

A challenge that my generation faces today is that everyone’s parents pay for all of their stuff, so they don’t learn the concept of money. I think that at 16 everyone should start paying for their own stuff, so they learn how to save their money and how to spend it wisely. I also think at 16 everyone needs to go out and get a job and not get any allowances or pay from their parents, they need to do it all by themselves. This is a problem in my generation because some kids have never had a job and their parents pay for all of there stuff for them. By that happening, when they go off to college and have a job and college, they are going to struggle trying to maintain doing both of those things at once.

The greatest challenge my generation faces is what they want to do with the rest of their lives. Most of my generation doesn't know what they want to do for a job after high school or what college. Some of them don't think they are ready to go out on there own and find a suitable job for themselves.
ReplyDeleteI think the greatest challenge going into adult hood is finding a place to live and being on your own with everything. The things I fear after being in adult hood for awhile is trying to find a piece of land to buy or to build on. Things I fear at the start of adult hood is trying to find a place to rent that’s out of town in the country. I don’t really want to live with my parents that long after high school because I want to be on my own. Another fear is which isn’t much of a fear is going to work all day long instead of just after school and doing it all year round.

There are many challenges to becoming an adult. The major one is financing. Financing is one because you must learn how to balance money and how to spend it. If you spend it poorly, you will most likely run out, but if you spend it wisely then you will have plenty of money to spend. It also comes as a challenge because you must make money to be able to spend money. In order to make money, you either must work for it or start your own business. Most people work for their money and how I plan to get money is work for it or run my own farm. In order to run my own farm, I still have to work to make money in today’s world. Charles Bruns
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I believe the greatest challenge my generation faces are the use of social media. This is a big challenge to young kids because they want to post things that they are doing to look cool. If someone posts one bad post, it could lead them to be made fun of or not go to a college due to there actions. It should be addressed at schools, advertisements online, or by parents because social media could kill your dream in one second.
ReplyDeleteThe greatest challenge that my generation of kids face going into their adulthood is financial problems. Kids want to spend more money than they have, and it could hurt their future. Some kids that are in sports or work for their parents are not making as much as kids working for companies. This is going to hurt their future because if they want to buy something, they need then they would have to get a loan or get help from their parents. I think the best way for this challenge to be addressed is to raise the wages and lower taxes so then the parents can help their children out. Some kids are going to the workforce after school because they want to start making money and buying land and building a house and shop. This will be beneficial to them because they don’t have student debt that they have to pay off. I don’t think kids in my generation are financially prepared for the future. Michael Droeszler
ReplyDeleteThe greatest challenge for this generation of youths I believe is student loan debt. I would argue student loan debt because that is what effects most young people. There is a large amount of young people who have to or feel they have to go college. I also researched this in economics and I found for citizens as a whole student loan debt is the largest debt much larger than credit card debt, mortgages, or car payments. That is why I think student loan debt is the largest problem facing young people today.
ReplyDeleteThe greatest challenge my generation faces is the economy, climate change, and politics. With the inflated costs of college as well as the ongoing struggles occurring in other countries, we face the issue of possibly having a recession. This is going to put graduates in a tough position with finding jobs as well as housing to live in. The problems with the climate aren’t fixing themselves either. There has to be a push to reduce the amount of fossil fuel being consumed and switch to nuclear or renewable energy sources. Studies show that if we don’t alter our culture of consumption there will be irreversible effects in our lifetime. There is also the issue of politics. Those going through high school need to be more educated on politics and current events going on in the world. There is no reason that a senior in high school still doesn’t know what color the Republicans are associated with. Every year of high school should include a mandatory government class which goes over how our political system works while also focusing on events that are happening in the world. This would create a more well-rounded student and would most likely improve voter turnout since people are more involved in the world of politics.
ReplyDeletethe biggest challenge for me is to move out of home and to live on my own. it can be addressed by having no fear and do whatever it takes to make things work.

I believe the greatest challenge our generation faces is going to college and racking up that debt. I believe this is the biggest challenge because some dig themselves so far in debt and then they’re expected to pay it off shortly after college. For example, my sister has finished college and has been looking for a job that fits with her degree and she is struggling to find opens. This is tough of you’ve racked up all that college debt and then you get out of college and find out how tough it is to find a job relating to your degree. On top of those student loans you are starting to be independent, so you’re going to have other loans such as car and house. Along with other living expenses. I think this is a wide-ranging challenge because many people face student loans that they must pay back for after college. They may not have the problem of finding a job on the job market, but they will have that student loan debt. I think it should be addressed by better educating high school kids on living expenses and how to be cautious with their money. It should be addressed to save your money as much as you can along with taking a smart college career path such as going to a community college first.

A challenge our generation has today is social media, many of us have social media. Social media can turn someone’s life upside down real fast, so you must watch what you are putting on online. As we get older many of us are looking for jobs, trying to get into college, and ect. Few people in my generation know that many business and schools look through a person’s social media account to see what is good and what is bad, and what kind of person they really are. This is a wide-ranging challenge in today’s world because the technology has grown over the years. One way you could or should address this problem is think before you act, this is saying think before you might say something online or hurt someone feeling. It is best for you to not post anything that might get you in trouble someday.

The biggest challenges kids my age face going into adult hood is having to be financially responsible for yourself. A lot of kids parents pay for everything for them through high school and college. This will never teach kids how to pay for things themselves such as car insurance, gas, going out with friends. If their parents keep paying for these things they will never learn how to spend money wisely and how to save. Kids our age need to learn to be responsible for their own things.
ReplyDeleteisabella shepherd
My challenges will be to save enough money for college and get a good paying job once i graduate to pay back the student loans. once i move out of the house and get my own place i will have to buckle down and start my life
ReplyDeleteI think the biggest challenge our generation faces are mental health. I think this because now a days a lot of kids have depression and anxiety. Most parents believe that spending less time on electronics will help with it, but I don’t think that’s why because our generation is gonna be surrounded by electronics for our jobs because that’s the future. I think the best way to address this issue is to talk about it with people you trust and have them help you with these problems. Another way would be to visit a professional who specializes in helping people with there mental health and see what they say will help.

I believe the greatest challenge our generation will face will be deciding what to do with their lives. There are so many people who don't have a clue what they want to do later in their life but have amazing talents and gifts and the whole idea of being by yourself. Maybe its going off the college or moving out own your own and then having to figure out problems on your own that you might have no idea how to fix. A lot of this should be addressed in different classes throughout high school and college.

I think the hardest challenge that my generation faces is choosing a pathway for our future. Society is always changing, and we have different methods and ways of approaching certain situations. Back in the 60’s, most people got some kind of job right after high school. Now, most students will attend a college of their choosing after they graduate. Most of us don’t have any clue what we are going to do next, and those that think they have a plan find it riddled with holes. Nothing is ever set in stone and no plan is full proof. I think this has always been a common problem but with my generation, and future generations, it’s only getting worse. The cost of living and college is increasing each year and soon enough, only the rich and those that want to be in debt for the rest of their lives will attend college. I don’t know if there is some capable way of approaching the situation because we have dug ourselves into a hole. The only real solution is figuring out what you want to do, stick with that plan, and try not to waste any of your money along the way. Sometimes, the most expensive route isn’t always the correct path. Some of us aren’t suited for college or the careers that we think we want to pursue. That’s not a bad thing though, we’re humans for a reason. We make mistakes.

I believe the biggest challenge our generation faces is college debt. The amount of students enrolling in colleges is growing more and more each year. Also the cost of tuition has been steadily increasing since the 80's and it doesn't seem like it's going to stop growing soon. It takes graduates many years to pay off their student loan debts, and for most graduates it's an issue paying those minimums. The student loan crisis is up to 1.5 trillion dollars in the U.S. and that number will continue to grow. This issue can be addressed by educating students about what loans their getting into and how their payments will work exactly.
ReplyDeleteThe biggest challenge kids of my generation face is uniformity. What I mean by this is that in this era kids want to fit in by any means necessary and by doing so they hurt themselves in the long run. When kids go to a party and see others drinking, they know they shouldn’t join in, but with a little peer pressure the kids will sit down and take a shot. When kids see the “cool kids” picking on someone they know they should stop them but most of the time they will join in just so they can seem cool too. When I said uniformity, I meant that children try to act the way those around them act whether its good or bad. They should however try to be their own person. You don’t have to be unique you just have to be true to yourself.

The biggest challenge our generation faces is handling money. We need to know what is smart buys versus wastes of money. This also ties into student loan debt and college. College isn't for everybody and you should know exactly what you want to do before you go spend a ton of money in college. If you don't know what you want to do and then you get a ton of student loan debt, you may have trouble finding a good job after college. I saw a video one time of a guy who got a masters degree in history, just to become a high school history teacher. He was about 100,000 dollars in debt and was not making a lot of money to pay it off. I think this is a big issue because we are still young and don't know how to spend our money so we need help from older people with these decisions. This issue could be addressed by thinking about your decision and the long-term affects before you buy something. -Sam Noonan
ReplyDeleteI believe the greatest challenge this generation will face in the future is the advancements of technology. The past decade robots, machines, and computers have been taking away american jobs. This country is set on increasing technology and machines in factories for better production, but in the long run in may just hurt our economy. I believe the unemployment rate is going to rise exponentially in the coming decade due to the advancement of technology. I think the main way this needs to be addressed is for companies to realize that not everything can be done by machine, and some things should just always be made or produced by humans.
ReplyDeleteA challenge our generation faces in today's world is that we are very lazy and we don know what to do after college. This generation is also used to getting money from their parents because they are to lazy and they do not want to get a job. Another thing is they'll go to college for a career then they wont like that career and then end up switching and from there a lot of debt will add up. Then from there they will have to get a job but wont like it because they are used to getting money from their parents. In general we this generation is just really lazy and do not know what do in life.
ReplyDeleteThe greatest challenge of our generation faces is what are going to do with the rest of our life's after we get done with high school, we are going to work for the rest out life's. We have to make good decisions. It can be addressed by having no fear in life do whatever it takes to to make it happen and be successful in life.
ReplyDeleteThe greatest challenge my generation faces is making a name for ourselves. I view this as a challenge because we’re the one generation that’s lately been viewed as screw-ups, addicts, and delinquents. I don’t blame them, because many people in our generation are living up to their expectations. Our greatest challenge is overcoming those expectations.
ReplyDeleteThe biggest challenge our generation faces is having to pick what you would like to be when you graduate out of high school. Some people don't know what they want to be. They're are so many options out in the real world but it's hard to choose what you want to be.
ReplyDeleteMy generation of faces the challenge is not known how to work on their own things growing up we one tossed it out or two we took it somewhere we never fix things. When we get to adulthood and have kids some day when they come to us as parents and have a problem with something, we won't be able to help. This could be fixed be this generation starting to do things for themselves.

ReplyDeleteI think the greatest challenge would be that a lot of our generation is lazier than past generations and we have a lot of technology. Ya there may be some jobs with technology but are there jobs that people can work from home. I just believe our generation is lazy and don’t know how to work hard for their money. I don’t think they know how to go out and find a job or even find benefits if they need them. I think people need to make it very aware how to go out and get the things we need how to get jobs, help, and benefits.
